Teddy!!

Hope you like the pics!!

What's in a Name?

After much deliberation and serious consideration I decided to go with......(drum role please).........TEDDY!

It actually wasn't the name I wanted at all. I started calling him Master Rhino, because of Nance and Brooklyn, but it just didn't fit. When I look him, I see a teddy bear. I mean, he is kind of fat, so it is almost like he is not a hamster but a mini-bear.

I want you all to know that I am really really appreciative of the names you gave me. It made choosing one a lot easier. So, thank you all so much!! :)

I will be posting pictures soon, I hope that you agree that Teddy, is in fact the right name for this little bear.

New Pet

I got a new pet today. It was an extremely unexpected event. My sister has her hands full, being pregnant and all, and gave the hamster to my other...equally as busy sister, having a baby and all. Well, my sister that took on the hamster is leaving soon for vacation and wouldn't be able to take care of him.

So...long story short, I asked if I could keep the little guy. I cleaned his cage out and he is the cutest little guy and I am happy to have him! He is white with light brown splotches all over and he is kind of chubby, but like I said, he is the cutest!

But...what the purpose of this post was not to inform you of my new pet, but to ask for suggestions on a name for my new hamster. Any ideas?

almost my birthday

I am so so so excited for my birthday this coming week! I can't believe that I will be seventeen!! It has been a long year and I am ready for a new start. For some reason I feel like being seventeen will be momentous and different, I am feeling older already.I guess I will just have to see how much change happens this year. This is a short post, but what else do you post about your birthday?

Shopping

I had a wonderful day yesterday filled with shopping quality time with a buddy. Every now and then it is healthy to go on a little shopping trip with friends. I didn't spend a lot, but it isn't about what you buy or what you didn't buy that makes it a good experience. (I should have bought that black blouse though!)

As a wise woman once said, whom I just found on google and have no real ideal who they are, "I always say shopping is cheaper than a psychiatrist." I have come to the conclusion that shopping is just as good, (if not better) than seeing a shrink. Shopping, when done the right way, can make you feel confident in your buying decisions, feel good about your looks, and make you more aware of your own sense of style. I get to know myself a little better every time I go shopping.

One thing that I hear all the time when I go shopping is that if you don't like it on the hanger at the store, then you won't like it at home. That is so true! I mean, it's not like the merchandise gets prettier when you get home. I had to tell myself a lot yesterday (well, MaryBeth had to tell me a lot yesterday) before I bought something I didn't need, to take a deep breath and walk away.

I am not a clear thinker when it comes to shopping, unless I have a list. So, I often buy things that I really don't need. It is better to leave a store with one good purchase and money left over, than to leave the store with ten bags of useless stuff and no change.

"Anyway, um, um, where was I? Kinda lost my train of thought....Uh, well, uh, OK. Anyway I, I know it's kind of a roundabout way of saying it...But I guess the whole point I'm tryin' to make here is..." I love shopping!!

My Lovely, New Reatainer

As most of you know, I got my braces taken off late last month and my teeth are amazing! However, I got my stupid, new retainer yesterday and I already can't stand it!!

Anyway, I wanted to know more about retainer that gives me a silly lisp, so I went on a site called, "The Reality of Retainers". (don't you just love the name?) I was mainly looking for ways to SAFELY clean the retainer, but I stumbled upon some funny information...

"Retainers can help many mouth problems besides shifting teeth. Sometimes they're used to help a medical problem. For example, you may have a tongue thrust (a condition where your tongue sneaks through your teeth when you talk). Some retainers, known as a crib or tongue cage retainers, are designed with small metal bars that hang down from the roof of your mouth. These retainers keep your tongue from going forward in between your teeth when you speak. Your tongue is trained to go to the roof of your mouth instead of through your teeth. The length of time kids wear a tongue cage varies depending on the kid."

It just so happens that I have one of these...'tongue thruster' things. And the analogy they made about the crib to the "cage" is totally wrong. Here is the truth...my tongue has never felt more trapped. I feel like my tongue is in a jail cell! Plus, it makes my tongue sore to have to keep it in the same position behind that dumb "crib" so my mouth is always sore.

Well, my orthodontist told me that I can only take the retainer out when I eat, so I relish in the fact that I am given three glorious meals a day plus snacks at four. I really don't know what I'd do if I had to wear these any more than that. It makes me feel bad for those kids who have to wear head gear and stuff. ew. I can't even imagine.

I don't really know what I was getting at, but...I really hate this retainer, but, as much as I hate to admit it, I am happy that my teeth are going to stay straight.

Experiencing HUGE Facebook Withdraws!! :(

I really can't stand how bad this is getting. I want SO badly to be on facebook right now, but like a wise man once said...."if you break a promise to yourself you have no self respect." Seeing as I don't want to lose my self respect, I am going to keep my promise no matter how hard it is!

And because of the immense concentration that it takes not to type www.facebook.com into the url space, I have made a series of chants to say to myself when I am really close to breaking my promise....
1.You can do it! You can do it! etc. etc. (this one gets old really fast...)
2.You aren't missing anything, you can make up for all the time you missed in a week and a half, you aren't missing anything, you can make up for all the time you missed in a week and a half...etc.
3.not having facebook isn't gonna make you crazy, not having facebook will NOT make you crazy!!
4.I am too busy for facebook. I am too busy for facebook!!

So, these chants are sort of lame...okay....really lame, but it really does help to think that I am too busy to be on anyway...(even though we all know that I am not, otherwise I wouldn't be blogging about it)

In short, I just wanted to say....enjoy facebook!! lol (and blogging)
